MEET JOHN


John D. Freund

Founding Shareholder

     John D. Freund was born in Waterloo, Iowa in 1978 and was raised in Waterloo and Dubuque.  In May of 2000, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts, maxima cum laude, from Loras College, with majors in Economics and English: Writing and minors in Business and Spanish.

     In December of 2003, he received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law and was admitted to practice law in the State of Iowa in April of 2004.  In 2006, John was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, and he was admitted to practice in the State of Wisconsin in 2011.  He is a member of the Dubuque County, Iowa State, and Wisconsin State Bar Associations and has worked on the continuing education and technology committees of the Dubuque County Bar Association.

     John practices primarily in the areas of corporate/commercial law, real estate, and estate planning.  He is especially enthusiastic about incorporating technology into legal practice.

     He served as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Dubuque Visiting Nurse Association from 2006-2009, the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Four Mounds Foundation from 2011-2015, and the Chair of the St. Columbkille Parish Finance Council from 2009-2015.  He is a former member of the Dubuque Main Street, Ltd. Board of Directors and sat on the Board of Directors for Dubuque County Right to Life, Inc. from 2015-2021, serving as its Treasurer.  Since 2019, John has served on the Board of Directors for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.

     Upon its founding in 2013, John has also served on the Advisory Board for Mary's Inn Maternity Home in Dubuque.  Since 2005, John has also served on the Board of Directors of Morrison Brothers Company, one of Dubuque's oldest manufacturers, established in 1855, and he is a founding member of the Board of Directors of Indiana-based IFBattery, Inc., an exciting flow battery upstart incorporated in 2016.  He has also taught as an adjunct instructor of Microeconomics at Loras College.

     In his free time, John enjoys the mass consumption of audiobooks, repairing vintage toys, completing the Sunday NYT crossword, working outdoors, and tinkering with technology.  He is an eternally-optimistic Chicago Bears fan and spreads his admiration broadly, from the late Walter Payton to the Blessed Virgin Mary and countless in-between.  John is also the author of several short stories and hundreds of Shakespearean sonnets. 

     He and his wife live in Dubuque and have five children.
